Blanchard's on Centre St., Jamaica Plain

ca. 1970                                                 2013

A look down Centre Street toward the Greenough Building at left and Blanchard Liquors to the right.  A trolley apporaches.  A sign for James W. Hennigan Insurance and Real Estate can be seen to the left. James W. Hennigan Jr. was a local politician and school board member who pushed for school integration in the 1970s. He lost a race for mayor of Boston in 1959. His father was a Mass State Representative. The James W. Hennigan School  is now a Boston public school near Hyde Square. The new fire station now stands to the right of the Greenough Building. A fire truck can be seen pulling out of the station onto Centre Street in the newer photo.
